Multiple Readings
Reading something multiple times may seem like a waste of time and it can be if it is not done right. However, structured multiple reads of a text are beneficial and even quicker then reading a text straight through. The advantage to multiple readings is that it keeps learners focused and motivated, can help them learn and remember more by activating prior knowledge. They can also help learners to see the text organization.
The great thing about multiple readings is that these strategies cover before, during and after reading. This means that your learners are constantly and actively reading. They can use these different strategies as a set or pick their favorite to preview or review a text. Using them all together--as a set--will provide the most benefit with challenging and difficulties texts, texts that need to be learned and remembered (especially long term), and also texts that they have little or no interest or motivation to read.
This information for this page and its strategies came from Isakson et al. (2010) and Frank (1990).
